IHF - Photog Challenge | " Innocent Wonder "

I chose this Self-Portrait of mine as an entry for this week's I Heart Faces photo challenge. I was bored one evening and decided to curl my hair and play with make up, which lead to an impromptu photo session.

The challenge is about "Innocent Wonder," what does it mean? my take on this is wondering what is on someone's mind. Kids especially are best on making the adults wonder what they are thinking about. I believe with my photo it portrays the same thing. It'll make you ask, "what is she thinking?" "what does she want?" "What is she up to?" With that innocent "look" I just gave you I can probably convince you to take me shopping, I'm only kidding, but did it work? lol

My Self Portait entitled I'M PRETTY (BORED).

So, I have been planning to get the girls round up and do a make up session in preparation for our Pin Up Doll - Photo Shoot this coming February (I sent out invitations, you ladies know who you are), well our schedules are just not in sync and live quite far from each other so it's hard to make it happen. Last night would have been a perfect time but plans fell through and everyone decided to stay in.

After church and lunch with the in-laws, Timothy and I took a nice long nap. When I woke up, Timothy had to help his parents move some stuff from his aunt's house, we scored a full size mattress with pillow top and all! woot woot!!! Now, he has a bed in his man cave, when he's tired of playing Starcraft, he doesn't have to leave the room to take a nap. I'm not quite sure if that's a good thing or not.

Anyways, I got bored and decided to curl my hair with my Corioliss Classic Black Iron, then it lead to playing with make up. I was trying out a pin up doll look with the red lips and dramatic eyeliner, came out a little modern. Finally into an impromptu self-portrait photo session. Here's the finish product:

My Modern Pin Up Doll Look

Check out my eyes on the very last shot, somehow when I moved my eye balls to the left the light hit just right where it made it look like I'm wearing cat eye lenses, creepy? lol

Canon vs Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

Canon vs Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
click the link above for a full article on the pros and cons of each camera

My very first handle on DSLR, I was a bit sceptical. It was no doubt the Nikon I was given the chance to play around with (Thanks Inna & RJ) was producing great quality photos, it was my first time and I felt like a professional photographer already (in my opinion of course lol), but it was just too bulky and too many buttons to press and that its not the most convenient camera to walk around with. I mean its definitely not as handy as the credit card size point and shoot camera I'm used to. Plus, a point and shoot could have the same or even higher megapixel, just couldn't interchange the lenses or manually operate the settings, which to some are not very important (although now I know why).

I often hear a constant battle between which DSLR camera is better - Canon or Nikon? And of course if you own one or the other you will be somewhat bias and leaning more towards the camera you own. Well of course, the consumer better believe what they paid a ton of money on is the better choice, right? So which is better really?

I was lucky enough not to go through the headache of shopping for the best camera, thanks to my husband TJ, he got me my camera for my birthday two years ago. I own a Canon Rebel XS, although its an entry level camera it does wonders, well as long as you know how to use its great features you can produce awesome photos with it. Plus, its not just the camera that makes a great photo, the photographer plays a big part too. You could have spent a thousand dollars or more for a camera but if you don't know how to use it aside from the automatic settings then you basically wasted your money and should have just stuck to point and shoot, right? Unless, you are actually interested on learning every feature and settings of your camera and invest on other equipments in the long run, then spending too much on a DSLR you will use just like any other point and shoot will be same as flushing money down the drain.

So I encourage all of you who owns a DSLR to take some time to read your manual, there are many youtube video tutorials on how to use specific cameras, as well as text books to imrpove your photography skills. Here's a link to a self-pace PDF tutorial: Two Peas in  a Bucket 12 Week Tutorial

It has been a while...

I could not believe how busy I have been this past couple of weeks, I could not even update my blog. I am definitely getting some practice on my photography skills. As you all know I enrolled at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts for 5 weeks of Photography 101. It is paying off pretty well, I am learning a lot and actually being able to apply it on my photo sessions, I've been holding for some of my family and friends. Here's what I have been busy with:

11.20.10 I was given a great opportunity to photograph Emie & Jose's little girl Emma. She is such a cutie and a natural. We met up at Al Lopez Park near Raymond James Stadium for an hour and half photo session. Its Emma's Christmas Pictures. Although it was taken at a park and no Christmas props, she is still dressed for the holiday. I found it very easy to photograph an active child at the park because they are having fun and preoccupied which gives me great opportunities to snap some natural emotions. Plus, they don't get bored, they are constantly smiling and have a glow in their face. The one thing that challenged me though is their fast movements, I had to make sure I was ready for any cute memorable shots. Best of all is the Natural lighting and shades I got that day, it was just perfect. I barely did any touch ups.

11/28/10 Pennie, Margie, & I had a great time photographing my former boss Stormy, Rob, her Mom, Max & Seven. We were the 1...2...3... Paparazzis lol. We got some great shots of the family. We surely need to work on coordinating our shots so we don't have each person looking at different cameras though. Other than that we were able capture some angles that one might have missed but definitely caught by the other. Here's a sneak peak:

12/01/10 I took some pictures of the Rabren Family in Wesley Chapel. It was a beautiful day. We went to a walking trail inside their neighborhood. I love the trees surrounding us, it really gave my shots a "middle of the forest" feel. They have family in Germany where the weather is probably a few degrees below ours so it will give them the warm feeling while viewing their photos. I was very pleased with how the pictures came out (again very little touch ups) and The Rabren's agreed, here's a sneak peak:

IHF - My Dogs Ate My Homework! Paper Challenge

So I Heart Faces had a Paper photo challenge this week and I had the brightest idea! until I realized although I have faces in my photo they not HUMAN faces (IHF photo challenges must have a human face in it, unless they specify that the particular challenge does not require it), so I disqualified my photos before I even decided to enter it in the weekly contest.

Anyways, I thought they are so cute its worth sharing.

Special thanks to Shadow and Mouschkie for being my impromtu models, too bad their cute little faces won't qualify for the contest but they are winners to me : )

Shadow contemplating if he should eat my homework lol

This would have been my entry and the title would have been "My Dog Ate My Homework"

Mouschkie

This was another potential entry for the Paper Challenge again titled "My Dogs Ate My Homework"

This is the behind the scene shot thats why its blurry. We took away the treat right before I took the shot so they would be interested on the notebook : )

I had a great time taking their pictures, its too bad I can't enter it in the contest. This was a last minute photoshoot and could not tell you what setting I was using without looking at the photo properties, I know I used a lot of Shutter Priority modes and also used Aperture Priority with high f/stop and high ISO to avoid using the Flash. I was so excited with the idea and overwhelmed with the doggies having too much energy for the treats I was giving them, Treats =  compensation (talent fees) for their services.

Please enjoy viewing them and don't forget to leave a comment below. Ciao Ciao!!!
